Charterhouse School, Godalming

One of our biggest projects to date, Smith Construction undertook a substantial £1.3m sports contract, with the overall scheme costing in excess of £2m.

The extensive project was completed in three stages; phase one was the installation of two high quality sand dressed hockey pitches with irrigation, six tennis courts with associated landscaping, and all playing pitches have flood lighting to ensure maximum use.

Charterhouse hired Smith Construction again to clean and respray their porous polymeric athletics track.

  • Size – 97.40m x 61.00m x 2
  • Full design and build contract.
  • Irrigation System
  • Fencing & Floodlight
  • Full drainage strategy installed
  • Spectator viewing areas.

Client – Charterhouse School

Smiths’ project and design team had an excellent grasp of what we wanted to achieve here at Charterhouse, right from the start, and they provided a very competitive tender, with cost effective solutions to our specific design needs. They provided the final pitch and court construction designs, along with technical calculations for the sustainable site drainage scheme. They also appreciated the very sensitive nature of construction on a heritage site, and they appreciate that conservation is very important to us. Smith Construction’s team carried out sensitive enabling works and tree protection before anything else could be started, and they worked with us to satisfy 37 planning conditions.
